Pampliest II: Socavón de Guatemala City by Faviola López-Romani is part of an investigation into non textual manuscripts and speculative historical artifacts. Inspired by the concept of the palimpsest-a surface where erased writing leaves presistent traces-the work is constructed from corn husk pulp using papermaking and casting techniques. The piece reinterprets the sinkhole that appeared in Guatemala City in 2010, articulating layers of color that reference both geological processes and disrupted temporalities. Viewed from above, the work reveals strata of Indigo, purple, yellow, and red, each produced through distinct materials conditions. These layers do not follow a linear logic; instead, they reveal discontinuities, ruptures, and accumulations, emphasizing how time and history sediment and continually reconfigure themselves.
