Place Making with Natural Dyes is an exploration in creating images that are embedded within structure, rather than images that are superimposed on to structure, in an attempt to create images that forgo the modernist tradition of creating images through modes of violence and domination.

In this project I experiment with natural dyes to create works that function both as images and structures. crisálida de mariposa (right), or butterfly chrysalis, signifies the beginning of a series of works featuring butterflies with eyes spot on their wings, a deceptive strategy utilized to scare off predators. imago’s confrontation (left), is an exploration on the power of sight and visibility in which an artwork is able to look back at viewers, representing an opportunity for subjects to be empowered.
